Crime Prevention Tips

Squad Lights

Police officers have been receiving more complaints about motor vehicle thefts and thefts from automobiles. Officers are keeping this in mind as they patrol. However, it is rare to catch a thief by increasing patrol.

Criminals have a better chance of being caught with the help of the community. Please be on the lookout for suspicious activity. If it doesn't look, sound, or feel right, call 9-1-1.

You can also take steps to reduce chances of this type of theft.

  • Close all windows and lock your vehicle, even when parked in your driveway.
  • Do not leave any valuables in your car. Thieves are looking for quick cash. Removing laptops, backpacks, golf clubs, phone chargers, and loose change can dramatically reduce the likelihood of your car being targeted.
  • Park in a well-lit area. Thieves do not want to be seen.
  • If parked in a garage, lock all the doors and windows to the garage. Do not leave keys inside the car or in the garage.
  • Do not leave your vehicle running and unattended, even if it’s "just for a minute."
