New Street Name Signs

New Street Signs_2017

It’s not your imagination, Roseville street signs are getting brighter. Thanks to a grant from 3M, Roseville is replacing street name signs throughout the city.

The grant provided the city with a 22% reduction in the cost of the signs, lowering the cost from $57,000 to about $45,000.

Roseville has approximately 1,600 street name signs across the city. The city also has approximately 3,400 directional, warning, speed, parking and stop signs. In addition, Ramsey County and the State of Minnesota have signs located throughout Roseville. Of the 1,600 street signs, 1,250 will be replaced. The remaining signs have recently been replaced due to other maintenance activities.

Most of the current street name signs were installed in 1996. They are fading and showing their age. Since the original signs were installed, technology has improved greatly. The new signs will not fade as quickly and will retain their reflective properties for a much longer time. The signs are also more reflective, making them easier to see, especially at night.

Crews have begun installing the new signs. They are reusing most of the posts, as they are still structurally sound. The goal is to finish installing the signs this winter, but the task is weather dependent.
