Roseville Police remind you to not leave your child or pet unattended inside a vehicle, even if you’re just stopping for a minute. The temperature inside of a car is generally hotter than outside temperatures.
On an 80º F day, the inside of a car can exceed 115º in about 30 minutes. At that temperature a person or pet could quickly succumb to heat stroke.
According to the Safe Kids Campaign, children are more vulnerable to heat because a child’s body temperature increases three to five times faster than an adult’s body temperature. Cracking a window is not an effective way to avoid the heat risks involved with leaving a child or pet in a car.
Call 9-1-1 immediately if your child is locked inside a vehicle. Seek emergency medical attention if you or your child has been exposed to high temperatures, appears flushed or dizzy, and is not sweating.
Teach your children and grandchildren that it is not safe to play in or around cars. Do not leave keys in a vehicle or where a child can reach them.
