In addition to replacing batteries annually, smoke alarms and CO detectors should be replaced at least once every 10 years.
According to the State Fire Marshall, residential fires account for more than 80% of all fire deaths in Minnesota. Two-thirds of fire deaths are in homes with no smoke alarm or a smoke alarm that does not work.
