[ARCHIVED] Parks and Recreation Great Asset to Community

Roseville residents rated Roseville parks and facilities excellent or good in a recent community interest and opinion survey.

At least 89% of residents visited the parks at least once in the past year. This compares with 72% nationally.

Roseville worked with Leisure Vision to gauge support for the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and to establish priorities for improvements of parks and recreation facilities, programs and services.

The survey found that current usage of parks is very high throughout Roseville, and walking and biking trails were the most used amenities. A total of 81% of residents visited Central Park in the past 12 months. The Skating Center, City Hall and Harriet Alexander Nature Center were the three most often visited facilities by households in the past 12 months.

The survey showed the majority of residents would likely support some level of tax increase in exchange for improvements in areas they prefer.

About 60% of Roseville residents surveyed said they would be willing to pay an additional $3 a month in taxes to increase the parks department’s budget to pay for the improvement and operating costs of the city’s walking, biking and nature trails.

The Roseville City Council received a presentation on the survey at the June 20 meeting. The City Council, Parks and Recreation Commission, Master Plan steering committee and staff will use this information to carry out the Master Plan that was adopted in November 2010.

You can read a copy of the report at Roseville City Hall and view the webstreamed presentation online.
