In past years, fire crews have responded to multiple building, grass, and rubbish fires over the holiday. Most were caused by fireworks that were not properly extinguished. Non-explosive and non-aerial fireworks are permitted in Roseville, but fireworks may not be used on public property.  

“There are simple things people can do to keep everyone safe and minimize fire risk,” said Assistant Fire Chief Neil Sjostrom. “We have not seen much moisture this summer so using caution with fireworks, even the legal style for Minnesota, will be critically important to prevent fires.”

Fireworks Safety:   

• Read and follow directions on the label    
• Only light fireworks on a flat surface away from buildings, dry leaves, and flammable materials    
• Wear eye protection    
• Light one item at a time and do not try to re-light a “dud” firework    
• Dispose of fireworks properly. Soak thoroughly in water before putting any material in a trash can    
• Do not give fireworks to children 
• Use discretion when setting off noisemakers, especially at night. Roseville prohibits noises that annoy or disturb a person or prevents their enjoyment of their property.

Sjostrom also urges residents to stay hydrated and avoid over-exertion on these hot days to avoid medical emergencies.
