All in a day’s work for our firefighters, but if you look a little deeper, you’ll realize that the firefighters put out a fire that could have destroyed a large section of the city.

The tanker truck was carrying 7,700 gallons of ethanol. Ethanol is a highly flammable liquid, and its flame is often not visible in normal light. The cab of the tanker truck was burning near two fuel storage facilities. If the fire had spread, it could have had disastrous consequences.

Thankfully, firefighters had a new foam trailer to smother the flames. Roseville purchased the trailer earlier this summer, with donations from NuStar Energy LP, Lube Tech, and Magellan Midstream LP. It carries more than twice the foam as the old fire engine and can more easily access tight areas.

Firefighters were called to the fire at about 11:30 p.m. Extra crews were called when they saw the extent of the fire and the potential danger. Police officers also reported to the fire, redirecting traffic and providing assistance. Crews remained on the scene until 6:00 a.m. when a tow company removed the heavily damaged vehicle.
