Location: Apple Store, Rosedale Center; 1595 Hwy 36
Officer Cox was working an off-duty security shift at the Apple store. At approximately 7:20 p.m., he observed three juvenile males enter the store and exhibit behaviors consistent with shoplifters. Two of the juveniles moved to an area out of Officer Cox's view while the third male appeared to be keeping watch on Officer Cox. One of the males removed a security device from an iPhone causing the alarms to go off. Apple employees and Officer Cox directed their attention to that male. Apple chose not to press charges against the male who removed the security tag.
A short time later, the store manager informed Officer Cox that four Apple iPhones were missing from the area where the two juvenile suspects had been. Security video showed the two juveniles selecting and concealing multiple iPhones before exiting the store.
It was clear all three suspects acted in concert in this theft. At 7:30 p.m., Officers responded to mall security personnel who were involved in a physical altercation with six individuals who had just stolen merchandise from Pac Sun. Several officers responded and one male was taken into custody as another male ran away from officers. Immediately after this incident, an employee of Zumiez reported the same suspects were also stealing items from Zumiez. While searching the suspect officers located two iPhones later confirmed by Officer Cox to be the iPhones that were stolen earlier.
Officers located an additional suspect who had locked himself inside a vehicle in the parking lot. The suspect refused to open the door and officers had to break the window to take the suspect into custody.
